TIPS FOR SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS

Transitioning to College Classes

  • College classes may move faster than
  • high school
  • You will have to take more initiative to
  • connect with your professor/instructor
  • Necessary to develop self-supervision
  • and accountability skills

Get the Most Out of
Your Time

  • Build sustainable habits (e.g. checking
  • email and Moodle daily)
  • Choose one day each week to preview
  • upcoming classes and assignments
  • Learn to prioritize tasks
  • Utilize backwards planning

Reflect on Your Study Habits

Consider the following:

  • Do you work best individually or with others?
  • Time of day are you most productive
  • Length of study block
  • Environment and background noise
  • Are you using active study strategies?

Go to Class & Take Notes

  • Participate in class
  • Adapt notetaking skills as
  • needed
  • Reference Notetaking
  • Handout on ASC website
  • for additional strategies

Utilize Resources

  • Read your syllabus!
  • Familiarize yourself with class resources
  • Know your homework platform
  • Get to know your professor through
    office hours, after class, etc.
  • You don’t have to be struggling in a
    class to get tutoring, peer
    mentoring, etc.
