TIPS FOR SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS
- College classes may move faster than
- high school
- You will have to take more initiative to
- connect with your professor/instructor
- Necessary to develop self-supervision
- and accountability skills
- Build sustainable habits (e.g. checking
- email and Moodle daily)
- Choose one day each week to preview
- upcoming classes and assignments
- Learn to prioritize tasks
- Utilize backwards planning
Consider the following:
- Do you work best individually or with others?
- Time of day are you most productive
- Length of study block
- Environment and background noise
- Are you using active study strategies?
- Participate in class
- Adapt notetaking skills as
- needed
- Reference Notetaking

- Read your syllabus!
- Familiarize yourself with class resources
- Know your homework platform
- Get to know your professor through
office hours, after class, etc. - You don’t have to be struggling in a
class to get tutoring, peer
mentoring, etc.
