How can the Writing Center collaborate with instructors?

Classroom Visits

We are happy to provide your students with a brief 10-15 minute introduction to our writing services! To request a presentation, please fill out our classroom visit form. If scheduling a visit doesn’t fit into your class schedule, we do encourage you to utilize our UWC and GWC videos. These can be embedded directly into Moodle or other class websites. The best way to encourage students to visit the Writing Center is for a peer leader to explain our services to them! We encourage you to schedule visits toward the beginning of the semester.

Classroom Pop-Ups

The writing center can schedule a “pop-up” style writing center in which a small number of writing consultants and the Writing Center Director visit your course and provide 1-1 writing feedback for students. We suggest scheduling this when your students have an active draft for an assignment in your course.

Asynchronous Resources

We do! We have nearly 50 downloadable handouts about a wide range of genres and topics. Feel free to link to our handout page or include them on your class website.

Writing Center Visit Notifications

Students may request that we send their instructors a notice that they visited the Writing Center. This is often used if, for example, you incorporate a Writing Center visit as an extra credit opportunity. While we love for instructors to encourage use of the Writing Center, requiring writing center visits is not effective. We kind request that you do not require your entire class to use the Writing Center.
